The Design Process
A Structured Approach from Idea to Approval
Our design process ensures clarity, collaboration, and consistency at every stage. Each phase builds upon the previous one, allowing for informed decisions and smooth transitions into execution.
- Initial Consultation
Our landscape architects/designers will meet you on-site (attracts a fee) or in our design studio (complimentary) to establish a landscape design brief.Consultations take approximately one (1) hour and include, design advice, ideas on areas within your garden, as well as: soil, planting advice and selection, construction advice, such as structures, fencing, decking, pools, retaining walls, paving, drainage, irrigation. Consultations do not include sketch drawings. After we have met, we would then provide you with a detailed design fee proposal outlining the scope of works discussed for your consideration
- Sketch Design & Budget
Upon acceptance of the design fee proposal, the first stage is Sketch Design. Here we produce a sketch of the proposed landscape, images and items (from past projects) that would fit within the landscape and an associated itemised budget (based on the initial available budget) that we can work through and refine to bring it into line with where it needs to head.
- Concept Design & Quotation
Based on comments and outcomes from the sketch design and budget meeting, we rework the design with further details and 3D perspectives to provide a really good understanding of the overall project and to bring the budget to a lump sum fixed quotation. If required, we can take care of Planning Approvals if necessary in this stage.
- Design Support
Where required, our designers remain involved in the background of our construction projects preparing drawings for engineering and building licence items within the TDL scope. Planting, Lighting and as constructed irrigation plans also fall within this stage.
- Installation
Once your design is complete, our experienced construction teams take on the role of ensuring the vision of the proposed design is brought to life during the construction or build process. Our construction teams have a wealth of experience in the fields of landscape construction and horticulture and are committed to delivering the highest standard of work on every project. You can rest assured that no matter how many hands are building your project, you’ll only ever deal with one point of contact – a construction supervisor who oversees all aspects of your project to ensure every element is delivered on time, on budget and above expectation.
Our Build Process
Quality, Coordination, Execution
Bringing a landscape design to life requires more than construction — it demands careful planning, skilled execution, and clear communication every step of the way. At Garden World, our build process is structured to ensure your vision becomes a reality with precision, transparency, and exceptional craftsmanship.
- 1. Project Initiation & Alignment
Once you approve the construction quotation and sign the contract, we begin with a detailed alignment between teams and your site. Our landscape architects and designers meet with the construction supervisor and project manager to review design intent, schedule, and deliverables in detail.
You will receive a construction schedule that outlines key milestones and timelines, so you have a clear picture of what to expect as the project unfolds.
- 2. Site Introduction & Team Mobilization
On the first day of work, we introduce you to your installation team — including the job overseer and crew — so you know exactly who is responsible for each part of the project. This early engagement builds trust and ensures accountability from day one.
Before our equipment arrives, we also coordinate utility markings and site preparations to maintain safety and accuracy
- 3. Daily Coordination & Communication
We believe you should never be left wondering what’s happening next. Our job overseer conducts daily check-ins on site, keeping the job calendar up to date and ensuring smooth coordination across tasks.
You’ll always know:
- Final plant installation
- Landscape lighting setup
- Thorough site cleanup
- Addressing punch-list items and refinements
- 4. Quality Construction & Detailed Execution
As your landscape begins to take shape, every element — from grading and planting to hardscaping and system installation — is carried out by trained professionals who focus on precision and detail.
We manage all aspects of construction including:
- Groundwork & grading
- Irrigation & drainage setup
- Hardscape installations
- Planting and softscape work
- Finishing details
Our crew combines experience in both horticulture and landscape construction, ensuring that the build matches the design vision in both form and function.
- 5. Final Touches & Project Completion
When the project reaches approximately 90% completion, we shift focus to finishing details. This includes:
- Final plant installation
- Landscape lighting setup
- Thorough site cleanup
- Addressing punch-list items and refinements
Before handover, we coordinate a final walkthrough with you, the designer, and the job overseer, so every detail is reviewed together and no expectation is unmet.
- 6. Client Handover & Care Guidance
Once your landscape reaches practical completion, you will receive a comprehensive handover package. This includes:
- Care instructions for plant species and materials used
- Landscape design documentation
- Irrigation and lighting plans
This pack empowers you to care confidently for your new landscape and maximize its long-term performance.
